Thai Massage is an incredibly healing ancient style of bodywork – one of which you’ve likely never heard of. Today I’d like to dive into explaining what Thai Massage is and the three powerful ways it can help transform your body.
Thai Massage – Defined
The most common style or modality of massage and bodywork is Swedish. It’s what most people think of, when the notion of ‘getting a massage’ is brought up.
Thai Massage differs from Swedish in a myriad of ways. The end goal of both modalities is the same: relaxation, increased blood flow and a decrease of aches and pains; however the way in which Thai Massage is performed though is vastly different from Swedish.
Thai Massage
- Client Remains Clothed in Loose-Fitting Clothing.
- Session Completed on a Floor Cushion.
- Session Combines Yoga-Like Stretching & Acupressure.
Swedish
- Client is Unclothed and Drapped with a Sheet and Blanket.
- Session Completed on a Massage Table.
- Session Focuses on Fluid Hands-On Techniques Like Petrissage & Effleurage.
The Three Major Benefits of Thai Massage
The ancient healing practice of Thai Massage dates back to more than 2,500 years ago; when it was invented by Doctor Shivago Kompara.
Since its’ inception, Thai Massage has been a powerful healing modality which has numerous benefits.
The three major health benefits of Thai Massage are: increased range of motion, increased blood circulation, improved posture, balance and body alignment.
In short – Thai Massage is simply amazing! I remember receiving my first Thai Massage back in 2016. Since then, it’s been my mission to learn as much as I could about this powerful style of massage; even going as far as traveling to Thailand to take classes and starting a blog to write about it.
Getting a Thai Massage is like going to your massage therapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor and then taking a yoga class. It truly is a holistic bodywork experience. I hope this post helped you learn a little or a lot more about Thai Massage. Fingers crossed that one day you’ll receive one – if so, drop a comment below and let me know what you thought. Until then, Namaste 🙂
